What's New with Jim - 2026
Summer is here already!
The 2026 Winter and Spring included wonderful trips to Big Bear California, Red Rocks Canyon Nevada and Pulaski, New York. I added a nice Great Horned Owl couple portrait to my Owl Metal Collection. I also discovered a mother Coot feeding her baby duckling, two cute Coots!

Happy 2026!
We were blessed again to visit Finland over the holidays. Now back in USA and hunkered down in a snow storm. We are looking forward to Spring and preparing for our events. Check out our schedule!

2025 was an exciting time of travel within the US and to Finland! Our trip to Florida last winter revealed spectacular birds including Spoonbills, Egrets and a grand Great Horned Owl on a nest with two of her chicks. In July we visited Finland which boasted fantastic coastal landscapes and unusual (for us) birds including a Eurasian Eagle Owl! Stop by one of our Fall shows to experience the beauty from these exotic locations.

What's New with Sue - 2026
2026 What We Have Been Up To
Sue – So many ideas, so many pieces to try and put together and finish…
This summer has been a season of finishing and updating pictures I’ve been working on for a while. Our off season is always a time to look over my artwork and think about the direction I want to go, lately I have been thinking about how important it is that all artists use their voice to let their artwork speak.
The importance of our environment and its diversity on our health and the health of our planet have always been an issue close to my heart. I am currently adding an endangered animal or plant to this season’s artwork. These items will be done in graphite hoping to bring to light if we don’t change these animals, plants will be no more. I have so far completed a miniature pond picture and am currently working on a larger version with broadleaf cattails and a painted turtle, I’m adding the blue spotted lizard to this picture. I’m also doing a second rose picture, this time with yellow roses and I’m adding a Sweetbay Magnolia to this one. Also in the queue is my pigeon picture inspired by our trip to Finland. Hopefully I will have all of them plus a couple others for the upcoming fall season.
I am also keeping busy experimenting with painting on slate for an upcoming fundraiser for the Pleasant Hills Library later this summer. What a wonderful summer enjoying our world and the wonderful world of art.
-----------------------------
After finishing up our Spring Show Season in May I have taken time to enjoy my garden, a wonderful vacation with my daughter and helping my son move. Even with all that going on I did have time to work on some artwork. This has been a summer of swallowtail butterflies, watching them in my flower garden and drawing them. I am currently working on a picture with the Black Swallowtail and the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail along with their host plants, Tulip Poplar, Parsley and Queen Anne’s Lace. What a fun picture, complicated and taking time, but fun. I am hoping to have this picture completed for the Fall Shows. I have also spent time going back into a previous swallowtail and mothman picture, brightening the colors, I think it looks bolder, brighter, better. I have a couple more pictures I’m working on, another swallowtail, the pipevine swallowtail and a rose picture. I’m excited about both of these pictures, more to come about this.
