Art Explosion Spring Sessions 2023

Enjoying the Season of Spring with Art

(Ages 4 - 7) 

Join us for a fun 6 week session exploring the wonderful season of Spring, letting it inspire our artwork.  Children will learn about artist Joan Mitchell, letting her abstract flower paintings inspire our spring paintings.  We’ll collect nature items incorporating what treasures we find into our nature collage and creating a still life drawing of them.  Children will use a variety of materials like markers, paints, colored pencils, pastels, and watercolors to name a few.  All materials are included, and children will take home their masterpiece at the end of every class.  Come join us as we have fun learning about our world and the wonderful world of art. 

  • Dates: Mondays March 6 - April 10

  • Time: Mondays 5:15 - 6:15pm

Celebrating the Season of Spring with Art

(Ages 6 - 12) 

Join us for a fun 6 week session where children will explore what is happening in nature during this amazing season letting it drive our artwork.  We’ll learn about artists like Ansel Adams, Paul Cezanne and Joan Mitchell letting her abstract flower paintings inspire our spring painting.   Children will enjoy a nature collection incorporating their findings, collected items into our spring nature still life, sculpture and collage.  We will use a variety of materials like tempera paint, pastels, markers, colored pencils and watercolors to name a few and all are included.  Children will take home the artwork they create after every class.  Come join us as we have fun learning about our world and the wonderful world of art.

Art Explosion Summer Camps 2023 Bethel Park

Getting Outside, Nature’s Journaling & Field Sketching
Ages 6-12

Children will have fun in this four-day camp, sketching outside, learning about, observing nature, and then capturing it in our sketchbooks.  We’ll play games, finding the caterpillars and getting the bees home while we observe these items in nature and draw them in our sketchbooks. We’ll learn art techniques looking at positive/negative space, capturing items to scale and quick sketching.  We’ll observe birds, working with shapes to draw and learn ways to show movement in our artwork. We’ll have fun experimenting with Plein Air Painting and learn about artist who use this method.  We will use a variety of materials, sketchbooks, pastels, watercolors, water brushes, colored pencils and tempera paint.  Come join us as we have fun getting creative and playing games while we learn about our world and the wonderful world of art.

Celebrating the Summer with Art
Ages 4-8

Children will have fun in this four-day camp playing games, sketching outside, learning about artists, drawing and painting some of our favorite summer places and activities.  We’ll talk about Eric Carle and his beautifully illustrated books, then set out to create our own hungry caterpillar.  We’ll visit the seashore through pictures and draw our own seaside picture that was once visited by dinosaurs.  Children will use a variety of materials like markers, colored pencils, watercolors, tempera paints, scissors to name a few.  Everyday we will spend some time outside sketching, weather permitting, playing games and creating a picture that the children can take home that day.  Come join us as we have fun enjoying the summer and learning about our world and the wonderful world of art.

  • Dates: Monday July 10 - Thursday July 13

  • Time: 1:30-3:30pm

  • Location: Bethel Park Community Rec Center
  • Ages 4 - 8

  • Cost - $85 + $10 materials fee

Celebrating the Summer with Art
Ages 6-12

Children will have fun in this four-day camp playing games, sketching outside, learning about artists, drawing and painting some of our favorite summer places and activities.  We’ll learn about artist Kathryn Glowen and her mixed media artwork The Secret Garden, letting it inspire our secret garden masterpiece.  Children will visit the seashore through pictures. We’ll learn about artist Archibald Thorburn, and let him inspire our seagull seaside picture and our collage seashells.  Children will use a variety of materials like colored pencils, markers, pastels, watercolors, tempera paints, scissors, and appliques to name a few.  Every day we will spend some time outside sketching, weather permitting, playing games, and creating a picture that the children can take home that day.  Come join us as we have fun enjoying the summer and learning about our world and the wonderful world of art.   

  • Dates: Monday July 17 - Thursday July 20

  • Time: 1:30-3:30pm
